About the role

This position plays a key role in fostering and maintaining positive relationships between the company, landowners, local communities, and stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

This position is responsible for leading engagement activities, supporting dispute resolution, promoting compliance with company policies and procedures, assisting in the coordination of community development, attending to and resolving community incidents/grievances. Part of the responsibilities include:

Lead Community Affairs Operations: Manage daily activities, team performance, and budgets to deliver effective community engagement programs.
Stakeholder & Landowner Engagement: A
ct as primary liaison with landowners, youth, and local communities to foster trust, manage relationships, and resolve conflicts.
Grievance & Risk Management:
Oversee the grievance system, monitor emerging threats, and work with security teams to ensure operational stability.
Cultural & Social Inclusion: Promote cultural awareness, support engagement with women and youth, and educate staff on local customs and social dynamics.
Compensation & Compliance Oversight: Coordinate landowner compensation, occupation fees, and ensure alignment with legal, policy, and human rights standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with internal departments and government officials to address landowner issues and deliver shared outcomes.

About You

To be considered for this position, candidates must have substantial experience in a similar role, preferably within Papua New Guinea or in a culturally diverse setting. In addition to this, candidates should also be able to demonstrate and have some or all of the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field such as Community Development, Communications for Development, Human Resources, or related disciplines.
  • PNG Driver’s license Class 6 is essential given the need for the driving is critical in this role 
  • Proficient in English and Tok Pinis (Pidgin), both spoken and written.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly MS Word and Excel.
  • Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and managing potentially tense or volatile community situations
  • Skilled in change management and community relations strategy implementation.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate teams to achieve community and company goals.
  • Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety practise relevant to community engagement and field work
