About the role

In this role you will direct, manage and ensure that mobile equipment repair is carried out in a productive and cost-effective manner to optimize mobile machinery availability and facilitate the delivery of Mining Services underground so productions targets can be met. You will provide management and leadership within our mobile maintenance department and this rewarding role will see you provide daily mentoring, guidance, instruction, and training to the national workforce to increase safety performance, machinery uptime and efficient outcomes within a motivated and talented department.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supervise all maintenance Personnel in the workshop, including recruitment and termination of personnel.
  • Liaise closely with the Production Superintendent in respect of equipment servicing and preventive maintenance scheduling and required equipment availability.
  • Supervise and control any sub-contractor activity at the workshop.
  • Supervise all workshop apprentices under the guidance of the Apprenticeship Co-ordinator.
  • Prepare estimates and quotes on repairs for work to be carried out in the workshop where applicable
  • Regularly assess and determine if upgrades are required and check designs of buckets booms and GET meet site and manufacturer’s specification in conjunction with HOD Mining.
  • Provide support to the Mine Superintendent to optimise efficiencies in the underground mine to achieve the Weekly Plan.
  • Work closely with the Mine Superintendent and Shift Supervisors to improve mining standards, assess operator performance and identify improvement projects to maximise results, reduce risk and implement cost management initiatives.
  • Establish a high-performance culture by motivating team members to strive for a high level of performance by rewarding and recognising high performance.
  • Ensure effective processes for communicating relevant information, including company, site, department, and team performance, to all team members are in place.
  • Continuously mentor and coach operators on acceptable mining standards and effective techniques on machinery to achieve these standards.
  • Identify skills gaps and training requirements and assist in developing training packages as required to close the skills gap.
  • Coordinate and assist with the delivery of training to employees.
  • Actively review the work performance of technicians and provide feedback to the area supervisors including the talent and succession planning for designated key roles.
  • Actively promotes a safe and healthy culture.
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety whilst setting clear expectations of relevant legal obligations, safe workplace practices and HSE operating practices to others, holding them accountable for their actions.
  • Ensure general housekeeping within the mine is of a high standard.
  • Perform all roles and responsibilities that support and reflect the company’s mission and core values.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant trade qualification in Heavy Equipment Fitting, Auto Electrical and Automation
  • 5+ years plus of underground mining experience (Essential)
  • 2+ years Shift Supervisor experience (Essential)
  • Organisational skills – Good time management skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills – Be an effective communicator and listener.
  • Extensive knowledge of SHE Management System relevant to K92 i.e. Policy and Procedures.
  • Supervisory skills – Be a good leader, motivator and teacher.
  • Good command of the English Language (oral & written).
  • Knowledge of various heavy earthmoving machinery components.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Duty of Care standards, occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations, Mining Inspection Act & Regulations.
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
