About the Role

As part of the technical services team and reporting to the Senior Mine Surveyor, the primary purpose of this position is to carry out all ventilation duties as per the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations. You will be proactive and forward-thinking with enthusiasm, commitment, and passion.

Key / Major Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

• Regularly inspecting and testing workplaces, travel ways, and locations where persons may travel in the mine.
• 3 Monthly intervals and after any substantial change to the primary ventilation circuits and volume flows, deterring and recording the quantity and quality of ventilation air in the mine using correct procedures and instruments and equipment suited to that purpose.
• Operating, calibrating, and maintaining ay metering or monitoring device used to determine the levels of emission of toxic or other atmospheric containments from any plant or equipment at the mine.
• Ensuring that all atmospheric containment sampling requested by an inspector is carried out and is recorded accurately. 
• Reading and recording the wet and dry bulb temperatures of all workplaces in the mine where it is suspected that temperatures or humid conditions may have potential for adverse effects on the safety and health of workers.
• Selecting and positioning auxiliary fans, regulators, and other controls, if required to ensure that the required volumes of air are provided in workplaces at the mine to satisfy the requirements of this Part.
• Project management of assigned underground mine infrastructure projects including Primary & secondary ventilation fans (Fan stations), bulkheads and DBR’s Primary and interim pump stations, Tele-remote setup plans and installation of emergency escape ladderways.

About You

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have a Grade 12 Certificate and Valid Class 6 Driver’s License, along with experience in either the Mining or Construction industry. In addition to this you will have some or all the following.

• Sound communication skills.
• Thorough knowledge of the PNG Mine Safety Act and Regulations
• Sound knowledge of safe mining practices and standards in an underground Narrow Vein Mine
• Experienced with 3D modelling software.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
