About the role

The Biodiversity Advisor is responsible for supporting K92 Mining Limited’s biodiversity conservation, land rehabilitation, and reclamation programs. The role ensures biodiversity values are identified, protected, monitored, and enhanced in line with PNG regulatory requirements, K92 environmental management plans, and international best practice. The position also leads community awareness initiatives and supervises environment field assistants engaged in rehabilitation and reclamation activities.

Key / Major Accountabilities

  • Implement and support biodiversity conservation programs in accordance with K92’s Environmental Management Plans (EMP), Biodiversity Management Plan, and regulatory approvals.
  • Identify, assess, and monitor flora, fauna, and sensitive habitats within the mine footprint and surrounding areas.
  • Support biodiversity baseline studies, monitoring programs, and impact assessments.
  • Assist in managing threatened, endemic, and culturally significant species.
  • Maintain biodiversity monitoring records, databases, and reporting outputs.
  • Lead and supervise Environment Field Assistants in land rehabilitation, revegetation, and mine closure-related activities.
  • Support the planning and implementation of progressive rehabilitation and reclamation programs.
  • Monitor rehabilitation performance, including vegetation survival, growth rates, and ecosystem recovery indicators.
  • Assist with erosion control, soil management, and invasive species management.
  • Deliver biodiversity and conservation awareness programs to local communities, landowners, and stakeholders.
  • Promote sustainable land use practices and community participation in conservation initiatives.
  • Support community-based rehabilitation, reforestation, and conservation projects where applicable.
  • Support compliance with PNG environmental legislation, permit conditions, and lender/industry standards.
  • Contribute to internal and external environmental reporting, including biodiversity and rehabilitation performance.
  • Assist with environmental audits, inspections, and regulatory engagements.
  • Promote a strong safety, environmental stewardship, and teamwork culture.

About You

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you must have a diploma or above in one of these fields: Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Forestry, or Natural Resource Management with extensive experience in biodiversity conservation and land rehabilitation. In addition, you must have most of the following:

  • Experience in biodiversity conservation, land rehabilitation, or environmental fieldwork, preferably in mining or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of PNG ecosystems, biodiversity, and community engagement practices.
  • Experience supervising field teams and community-based programs.
  • Ability to work in remote site conditions.
  • Experience in mine rehabilitation and closure planning.
  • Knowledge of international biodiversity standards (e.g. IFC Performance Standard 6).
  • Experience working with local communities and landowners in PNG.
  • Strong report writing and data management skills.
