Position Overview
The Heavy Equipment Fitter will play a key role in the maintenance of the power supply and distribution network equipment, including all Permanent Power Station generators, Temporary Power Station, Kumian Camps Power Generation, 800L Portal Power Distribution Systems and associated controls.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop the Power Generation Maintenance Team, ensuring safety, wellbeing, and compliance with safety procedures and OEM standards through coaching, inspections, and audits
Provide technical support by engaging with OEMs and vendors, coordinating spare parts availability, and assisting with troubleshooting and emergency repairs to minimise downtime.
Collaborate with planning and reliability teams to ensure maintenance activities are aligned with OEM strategies and support long-term equipment reliability.
Improve maintenance systems, including the development and refinement of SOPs and entry of observations into Pronto to support predictive and preventive maintenance efforts.
Support continuous improvement initiatives by working with the Reliability Engineer to assess equipment performance, reduce risk, and implement cost-saving projects.
Enhance team capability, identifying skills gaps, delivering training, mentoring staff, and supporting succession planning and performance development.
Communicate effectively across departments, maintaining clear coordination with planners, schedulers, operations, and the reliability team
Qualification, Skills & Experience
This role is ideally suited to someone who has relevant work experience in a similar role
• Relevant trade qualification in Heavy Equipment Fitting - Minimum Certificate III required.
• Previous experience or knowledge of Power Generation (Cummins KTA-50 / MTU 16v4000 engines).
• Previous personnel supervision experience
• Previous experience operating in Papua New Guinea or developing countries in remote locations will be highly regarded.
• Computer proficiency in MS Office suite including knowledge of Cummins & MTU Software
• Experience in the use of Pronto will be advantageous.
• Excellent knowledge in Engine tune ups and engine rebuilding procedures.
• Excellent knowledge in Auto Electrical including CAN System networks.
• Highly self-motivated and autonomous professional with strong attention to detail, effective time management, and well-developed interpersonal, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
