About the role

Joining our Environmental Team, the Pest controller is responsible for implementing effective pest management activities across the mine site to protect employee health, maintain environmental standards, and ensure compliance with site health, safety, and environmental requirements. The role supports environmental management programs, camp hygiene and public health initiatives at the mine site.

Key Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Undertake routine and reactive pest control activities across mine site facilities, including camps, kitchens, offices, workshops, plant areas, and waste disposal areas.
  • Control and manage pests including mosquitoes, flies, rodents, cockroaches, bedbugs, termites, and snakes (report only).
  • Identify pest breeding areas and recommend control and prevention measures
  • Support malaria control and other public health programs on site
  • Conduct all pest control activities in accordance with mine site HSE policies, Environmental Management Plans (EMP), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, transport, application, and disposal of chemicals and pesticides
  • Well versed with different chemicals, tools/equipment and treatment method.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Immediately report incidents, spills, near misses, and environmental hazards
  • Maintain accurate records of pest control activities, chemical usage, and inspection results
  • Prepare routine reports for the Environment Department
  • Assist with internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance activities
  • Work closely with the Environment, HSE, Camp Services, and Operations teams
  • Respond to pest-related complaints in a timely and professional manner
  • Provide basic pest prevention awareness to employees and contractors
  • Work in remote and operational mine site environments
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, rain, and dust
  • Shift work and emergency callouts may be required

About You

Candidates should have a minimum Grade 10 as well the following skills and experience

  • Certificate or recognized training in Pest Control, Environmental Health, or a related discipline
  • Training in chemical handling and hazardous substances
  • Basic knowledge of environmental protection and occupational health and safety requirements
  • Ability to complete operational records and reports
  • Physically fit and capable of outdoor and manual work
  • Must be detailed oriented and be able to follow detailed instructions in applying pesticide to avoid harm to self, employee, environment and company facilities,
  • Actively contribute to a safe and environmentally responsible workplace
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in a mining/industrial industry or hotels and hospitality industry specifically working as pest controller.
  • Knowledge of malaria control and public health pest management
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong safety awareness and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow procedures and work instructions
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Time management and basic record-keeping skills
