About the role

The Chinese Translator directly reports to the Project Manager – Infrastructure Projects and is responsible for providing accurate interpretation services between Chinese and English languages during meetings, conferences, construction activities, and other business interactions to support the Projects Department by being able to read, comprehend and translate Chinese words and ideas into English and Tok Pisin and vice versa while retaining the core ideas and information from the original texts. The Chinese Interpreter plays a crucial role in facilitating smooth cross-cultural communication between K92 Mining Projects Department and our Sub-Contractor.

Key / Major Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

• Provide accurate interpretation between Chinese and English languages during meetings, conferences, and other business-related events.
• Assist in translating written documents, such as emails, reports, and presentations, from Chinese to English and vice versa.
• Conduct research and gather information to ensure accurate understanding and interpretation of technical terms and industry-specific jargon.
• Act as a cultural liaison, helping to bridge the communication gap between Chinese and English-speaking colleagues and clients.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while handling sensitive information and discussions.
• Collaborate with other interpreters and translators to ensure consistent and accurate interpretation across different languages.
• Stay updated with industry trends, news, and developments in both Chinese and English-speaking markets.
• Provide language support during negotiations, and other business-related activities.
• Continuously improve language skills and cultural knowledge through professional development opportunities and self-study.
• Actively promote initiative-taking safety behaviours and leading by example

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong character who is prepared to make hard decisions and deliver results. In addition to this, you will have the following.

• Must have a university degree in a relevant area.
• Intermediate-to-advanced Business English proficiency to translate in a business context from Chinese language to English language.
• Demonstrated experience in the translation of business communications and technical documentation.
• Must have a solid understanding of computers with experience in the application and use of MS Office
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Give attention to detail.
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
