K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. About the role
As we expand our operation, we are seeking to add a Geology Superintendent to our technical services team to lead our team of expat and national geologists, in this role you will develop and implement processes to provide geological control, direction, planning and training support such that the production, safety, and budget objectives of the Geology team and operations are achieved.
Key / Major Accountabilities
- Manage and drive all grade control activities specific to a structurally hosted deposit in underground mining.
- Oversee diamond drill hole planning, design, scheduling and overall underground drilling management, including core processing and facilities.
- Structural and grade control modelling – including continuous review and developing improvements to get better grade predictions.
- Collate, assess, and interpret geological data to provide timely, relevant, and reliable input and geological recommendations for the Mining Department.
- Regular review of established processes and standards to maximise economic profit for the operation
- Assist with the short, medium, and long term mine planning from a geology perspective – working closely with other functional groups.
- Geology database management – including robust QAQC practices to ensure data flow and process management meets industry standards.
- Coordinate mine geology activities and report as required (daily, weekly, monthly, reports and QA/QC etc) including reconciliations
- Track mine geology expenditure and assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor Company policy and procedures to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Continually seek opportunities to improve the performance of the Geology Department and the Company.
- Conduct and participate in meetings in an orderly and constructive manner.
- Involvement and as needed in relevant aspects of the resource estimation by outside consultants, analysts visit, mine planning and other requirements.
- Ensure correct Laboratory and other QA/QC protocols are followed and action taken when results are out of bounds or other QAQC slip below standards and submission of a monthly report of QAQC activities.
- Production data tracking management to culminate in monthly reconciliations carrying out routine checks of mine production data records to validate and provide more rigor to the reconciliation process.
- Provide supporting geotechnical input to Geotechnical team as seen fit and where appropriate and applicable from geological perspective.
- Identify, select, develop, and retain top talent within the geology team which is required for long term planning and nationalisation.
- Develop the capability and provide mentoring and coaching to team members including training.
- Provide effective direction, supervision, and training mentoring of mine geologists, field assistants, drillers, and related geology staff.
- Assist in the development of a cohesive and effective mine geology team.
- Understand and express the requirements of site management.
- Communicate clearly and concisely with others in the mine geology team to achieve desired outcomes.
- Motivate, influence and counsel others to maintain performance.
- In conjunction with the Mine Technical Services Manager and Human Resource, counsel and manage employees where required in relation to work performance and conduct.
- Proactively manage company safety practices, policies, and initiatives to manage hazards and risks.
- Communicate regularly with subordinates regarding OH&S matters, foster a pro-active attitude in employees, and seek improvements to manage safety in the workplace.
- Inspect, monitor, and audit safety performance to ensure compliance with statutory and company requirements.
- Time investigation and reporting of incidents -including site wide communications
- Comply with established environmentally sustainable measures and site policy.
- Oversee PAF/NAF mine material management with routine testing and recommendations and reporting.
About You
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Geology
- Minimum of 10 years geology experience with a majority in mine geology and in the underground environment.
- Minimum of 5 years geology experience in narrow vein hosted deposit.
- Sound working knowledge of 3D modelling, data organization and Surpac or related mining software is essential. Deswik and Leapfrog exposure or experience is desired.
- Sound working knowledge of MS Office products including MS Access
- Experience or exposure to Datashed and Logchief is preferred.
- Be familiar with low sulphidation, disseminated, epithermal gold systems and vein style mineralisation.
- A clear commitment to safety and environment.
- Previous experience in managing diamond drilling programs
- Previous experience in start-up operations or extensive experience in setting up and implementing geological processes.
- Sound practical Geostatistics and Resource Modelling experience or exposure is essential to this role.
- Must be a self-starter, resourceful. Must provide frontline mentoring and supervision to geologists and support staff
- Be flexible, adaptable, a team player and be able communicate effectively at different levels of management.
