K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. About the role

As we continue an exciting period of expansion at K92, The Principal – Information Technology provides strategic and technical leadership for our Kainantu operation. Working with the Group IT Manager, this position helps shape the vision for IT systems, infrastructure and services, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, regulatory compliance, and cyber-security standards. The Principal IT drives innovation and contributes to governance frameworks, and ensures reliable, secure and resilient IT operations in support of both the surface and sub-surface requirements in conjunction with the key site stakeholders. The role also requires providing reasonable support and coverage for Operational Technology whilst the Principal OT is offsite.

Key / Major Accountabilities

  • Act as the on-site IT lead, working under the Group IT Manager and engaging stakeholders across all operational areas (including surface and underground requirements).
  • Coordinate Information Technology activities on site in collaboration with the Group IT Manager, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and compliance standards.
  • Champion IT security, reliability and performance, implementing best practices and monitoring system health.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance IT systems and processes.
  • Manage the portfolio of IT equipment, including computers, phones, servers, access points, communication and TVs.
  • Monitor and report on IT performance, highlighting risks, issues and progress on upgrades or enhancements.
  • Monitoring and maintaining on-site IT Infrastructure, including servers, communication links, lifecycle management
  • Implementation of new systems, services, policies and procedures
  • Ensure ongoing adherence and alignment to Group IT policies, procedures and projects
  • Providing continual feedback to the Group IT Manager for continuous improvement of systems, policies and services, as well as issues
  • Work with the Site IT/OT Team on
    • Being an escalation point for the team
    • Providing technical guidance on solutions
    • Monitoring and supporting Site IT Infrastructure
    • Allocating tasks and duties to the site team (where required)
  • Be a technical lead for on-site systems projects
  • Design and manage the site IT Budget
  • Lead communication and engage stakeholders across site management, project teams and vendors.
  • Provide technical leadership and staff development to lead, mentor and develop the on-site IT team.
  • Allocate tasks and manage team performance to meet operational and strategic goals.
  • Build site awareness of IT processes, systems and standards
  • Liaise with IT vendors and integrators to ensure SLAs, costs and engagement align with business needs.
  • Manage vendor quotes, purchasing and warranty support for IT equipment and systems.
  • Manage processes for identifying and evaluating risks or opportunities as part of the business planning process.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the processes for recording identified material risks or improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure risk management plans are regularly reviewed and management actions are delivered; and
  • Address risk management as part of all material decisions taken.
  • Contribute to and implement the site IT strategy in coordination with the Group IT Manager, aligned with business goals.
  • Support IT governance, standards and compliance frameworks under the direction of the Group IT Manager.
  • Embed cyber-security and operational resilience into all IT-related decisions.
  • Provide technical input to support technology decisions, in partnership with the Group IT Manager.
  • Support vendor negotiations and long-term IT partnerships in coordination with the Group IT Manager.
  • Ensure all personnel, contractors and visitors comply with site HSE requirements.
  • Ensure work is planned so it can be conducted safely, with consideration for environmental conditions, nearby activities, people, and other resources needed to complete the work.
  • Ensure housekeeping activities within and around the work area are performed to a high standard.
  • Ensure all work is carried out by competent personnel and in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Coach and mentor others through visible HSE leadership.
  • Actively promote a safety-first, zero-harm culture.
  • Lead communication and engage stakeholders across site management, project teams and vendors.
  • Provide technical leadership and staff development to lead, mentor and develop the on-site IT team.
  • Allocate tasks and manage team performance to meet operational and strategic goals.
  • Build site awareness of IT processes, systems and standards.

About You

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary or post-graduate qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience in enterprise IT environments (including support of surface and sub-surface operations), with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute IT strategy in complex operational settings.
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in mining or heavy industry preferred.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Windows environment (Server and Desktop).
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft/Office 365 (SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange Online, etc.).
  • Expertise in enterprise networks:
  • VLANs, Firewalls, SDWAN, BGP.
  • Enterprise wireless network management.
  • VPN technologies (IPSEC, SSL, etc.).
  • Experience with physical hardware and virtualisation technologies: Hyper-V, Nutanix.
  • Physical servers and storage solutions (NAS and SAN).
  • Backup and disaster recovery systems:
  • Veeam, Azure Site Recovery.
  • Endpoint security solutions (e.g., Webroot, Defender).
  • Patch management tools (e.g., WSUS).
  • Project management experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Exposure to Operational Technology, including wired and wireless OT infrastructure, SCADA systems, and mining-related systems.
  • Experience in Public Cloud (i.e. Azure, AWS, GCP) technologies.
  • Experience with modern CCTV/Security systems.
  • Experience with Docker and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with Fortinet, Ubiquiti and Cisco equipment.
  • Experience with WAN Technologies (i.e. MPLS, SDWAN).
  • Microsoft Intune MDM.
  • Scripting/Coding Experience (i.e. PowerShell, Python, etc).
  • Experience in industry software (i.e. Centric, Deswik).
