About the role
As our site goes through a period of rapid expansion, we are seeking a Principal – Underground Maintenance who will work in conjunction with our Maintenance Manager to direct, lead and manage a team responsible for the safe and cost-effective delivery of short, medium and long-term asset management strategies for our growing mobile fleet department and by doing so, ensure that all underground plant, equipment, and infrastructure assets meet operational requirements.
Key / Major Accountabilities
- Manage and implement the maintenance strategy for underground infrastructure and mobile fleet to achieve operational objectives, particularly, maintaining high equipment availability and reliability.
- Determine the preventative maintenance and repair requirements of all equipment and infrastructure.
- Identify, implement, and review equipment strategies, including quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of all results.
- Ensuring continuous improvement in the setup of the equipment maintenance organisation, required workshop tools, work procedures and inventory spare parts
- Ensure delivery of all daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual targets and KPIs associated with underground infrastructure and mobile equipment operability / serviceability.
- Develop and oversee delivery of short term (0 - 3month) maintenance schedules which ensure safe and reliable use of the assets.
- Lead a continuous review of mobile equipment processes and procedures to increase simplicity, effectiveness and ensure excellence in outcomes and asset utilisation / optimisation.
- Conduct or oversee investigations related to equipment performance issues
- Development and management of the annual operational and capital expenditure budget, including variance management with a cost improvement focus.
- Identify, develop, and deliver strategies and tactics to optimise commercial outcomes.
- Manage processes for identifying and evaluating risks or opportunities as part of the business planning process.
- Monitor the effectiveness of the processes for recording identified material risks or improvement opportunities.
- Ensure risk management plans are regularly reviewed and management actions are delivered; and
- Address risk management as part of all material decisions taken.
- Identify, select, develop, and retain leadership capability through formal feedback, career development, coaching and mentoring with a long-term view to nationalisation where possible.
- Ensure all personnel within their span of control are provided with ongoing career and technical development opportunities.
- Ensures team members collaborate with and influence internal and external stakeholders through formal and informal processes using their functional expertise and knowledge of both the mine and the K92 Mining business.
- Develop and implement cross departmental collaboration opportunities for people to work together and enable them to learn from each other.
- Lead the scheduling and allocation of staff and resources to ensure all management activities are achieved in an efficient and cost -effective manner.
- Promote and drive a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all legislative, company and personal HSE systems.
- Coach & mentor leaders and employees through visible HSE leadership.
- Ensure material operational risks are identified, assessed and mitigating actions developed, and controls implemented.
- Actively promote a safety first, zero harm culture.
About You
Qualifications & Experience
- Formal tertiary qualifications at a Bachelor level in an appropriate discipline.
- PNG Driver’s License (or ability to get one).
- Post graduate studies in Management or a related technical discipline.
- Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar
- Previous experience operating in Papua New Guinea or developing countries in remote locations will be highly regarded.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office suite and Pronto CMMS
- Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
- Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
- Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and align employees and by doing so develop an environment where employees work collaboratively to solve problems and achieve positive outcomes.

- 15+ years relevant work experience in similar management roles preferably in mining / remote construction operations.
