K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. More importantly, we have contributed significantly to the economy of Papua New Guinea, more than 90% of our employees and contractors are from PNG and our local education and skills development initiatives which include scholarships, traineeships and adult literacy programs continue to bring significant benefit the communities in which we operate. 

We are now transforming the operation with a new 1.2 mtpa process plant as well as extensive construction and expansion across site that will see us triple the output from our mine by 2027. About the role

As our site goes through a period of rapid expansion, we are seeking a Principal – Operational Services who will work in conjunction with our Maintenance Manager to direct, lead and manage a team responsible for the safe and cost-effective delivery of short, medium and long-term asset management strategies across Power, Water, Accommodation and small site Projects. Predominantly this relates to employee accommodation, office facilities and other non-operations surface infrastructure.

Key / Major Accountabilities

  • Through visible leadership behaviour, drive and influence safe behaviours within the workgroups under your control and sphere of influence.
  • Ensure all employees, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements and hold people accountable for their safety actions.
  • Plan work, so that it can be conducted safely and takes into consideration environmental, adjacent activities, as well as people and resource requirements into account.
  • Actively promote a safety first, zero harm culture.
  • Develop, employee capability by providing formal and informal feedback as well as on the job and formal training opportunities.
  • Ensure all personnel within your span of control are provided with ongoing career and technical development opportunities.
  • Create opportunities for people to work together to enable them to contribute to the business and learn from each other.
  • Play an active role in the allocation of staff and resources to ensure all maintenance activities are achieved in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Promote and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure delivery of all daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual targets and KPIs associated with non-operations power and utilities.
  • Develop and oversee delivery of short term (0 - 3month) non-operations power and utilities maintenance schedules.
  • Contribute to the development of medium- and long-term asset maintenance plans, and major capital improvement /replacement projects.
  • Supervise delivery of the power and utilities aspect of any non-operations CAPEX work.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to improve non operations asset effectiveness and utilisation.
  • Manage commercial contracts including performance of contractors and independent consultants working for the department.
  • Assist in / contribute to the development of annual operational and capital expenditure budgets.
  • Deliver work within budget constraints and manage variances in accordance with escalation processes.
  • Actively seek out cost reduction opportunities.
  • Manage processes for identifying and evaluating risks or opportunities as part of the business planning process.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the processes for recording identified material risks or improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure risk management plans are regularly reviewed and management actions are delivered; and
  • Address risk management as part of all material decisions taken.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

  • Trade or University qualifications relevant to the role.
  • PNG Driver’s License (or ability to get one).
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and align employees and by doing so develop an environment where employees work collaboratively to solve problems and achieve positive outcomes.
  • A willingness to take personal ownership for your actions and provide employees with role clarity via a clear structure, roles, responsibilities, and transparent, candid open dialogue.
  • Demonstrated an ability to create an environment of mutual respect, inclusivity, and open mindedness where employees are accountable for delivering results.

  • Demonstrated and promote visible safety leadership
  • 10+ years relevant work experience in similar management roles preferably in mining / remote construction operations.
  • Previous experience operating in Papua New Guinea or developing countries in remote locations will be highly regarded.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite & Pronto CMMS.
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
  • Demonstrated and promote visible safety leadership

In this role you will provide comprehensive Training & Assessment for the Surface Haulage Services (SHS) Department in the safe operation of articulated dump trucks (ADT) used to haul ore from underground to the nearby processing facility. This role also requires; the incumbent to assess competencies in the required standards and issue appropriate licenses and, if required, provide relief operator ADT truck driving.
