K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. More importantly, we have contributed significantly to the economy of Papua New Guinea, more than 90% of our employees and contractors are from PNG and our local education and skills development initiatives which include scholarships, traineeships and adult literacy programs continue to bring significant benefit the communities in which we operate. 

We are now transforming the operation with a new 1.2 mtpa process plant as well as extensive construction and expansion across site that will see us triple the output from our mine by 2027. About the role

As we double our output from 600ktpa to 1.2 mtpa from our K92 underground gold mine in 2026 and have higher production targets to hit in 2027, you will manage the effective and safe operation of the surface haulage services and associated infrastructure with a highly skilled expat staff and national workforce.

We’re looking for a proven leader, who will act as the end-user representative for Surface Haulage Services (SHS) involving multiple stakeholders as well as coordination and operational management of SHS mobile plant, personnel and associated road maintenance activities. The role leads and manages pivotal teams in the K92 Surface Haulage Services. The role is to provide guidance, leadership, instructions, and training to the national workforce to increase capability, efficiency and capacity.

Key / Major Accountabilities

• Project Management of SHS from the 800 Level to the Processing Plant, and thickened tailings to Kokomo for the Paste Plant operation.
• Key leader within the SHS Group, managing haulage, road maintenance and aligned tasks.
• Mentor National Supervisors, Admin, Cost Controllers, and Trainer Assessors to a high standard.
• Providing input and anticipating future demands from studies and long-term planning projects, liaising with corporate project and onsite planning teams to meet future mine haulage requirements.
• Work closely with Mine Technical Services (MTS) Dept and K92 Mining Services (KMS) Team to ensure the SHS is delivering and achieving budget and company growth plans.
• Develop and maintain an allocated annual budget and individual project costs.
• Any road maintenance work as prescribed by HOD-Surface Haulage Services.
• Actively promotes a safe and healthy culture within the teams.
• Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety whilst setting clear expectations of relevant legal obligations, safe workplace practices and HSE operating practices to others, holding them accountable for their actions.
• Perform general housekeeping within and around responsible work area.
• Review and validate engineering inputs for mine haulage scopes related to annual budget, expansion projects and Life of Mine requirements.
• Support alignment of haulage deliverables applying operational readiness principles and defining resource requirements.
• Assist in identifying and resolving planning gaps that may impact project timelines or execution quality
• Develop and execute project schedules, and budgets while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
• Operational System development and implementation of haulage critical task management plans
• Improve capability of team members and capability in general.
• Establish a high-performance culture by motivating team members to achieve a high level of performance and by rewarding and recognising high performance.
• Ensure effective processes for communicating relevant information, including company, site, department, and team performance, to all team members are in place.
• Identify skills gaps and training requirements and assist in developing training packages as required to close the skills gap.
• Coordinate and assist with the delivery of training to employees.
• Actively review the work performance of the engineers and provide feedback to the Head of Surface Haulage Services, including the talent and succession planning for designated key roles.
• Address risk management as part of all material decisions taken.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

• Graduate or postgraduate qualifications in either Mining or Civil Engineering.
• Formal qualifications in project management.
• 10 plus years’ experience working in open cut mines.
• Depth of knowledge in mining safety systems and mine safety governance and regulations.
• Demonstratable project management and implementation experience for, mining technology, opencut mining load and haul fleets and aligned services.
• Computer literacy, particularly experience working with Microsoft Office applications and ERP systems.
• Excellent project analysis and trouble shooting skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
• Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
• Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
