K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. More importantly, we have contributed significantly to the economy of Papua New Guinea, more than 90% of our employees and contractors are from PNG and our local education and skills development initiatives which include scholarships, traineeships and adult literacy programs continue to bring significant benefit the communities in which we operate.

About the role

The purpose of this role is to provide expert environmental advisory services to K92 Mining's corporate, projects, and operational sustainability functions. Based in Brisbane and working closely with site-based and corporate teams, the Advisor serves as a primary technical resource on environmental technical matters, management systems, regulatory compliance, and the implementation of internationally recognised environmental standards.

This role is critical to advancing K92's environmental performance and ensuring the company meets its obligations under applicable national regulations and voluntary international frameworks. The Sustainability Advisor will work in close collaboration with the Operations and Projects teams to translate environmental commitments into practical, site-level programs and management actions.

Key / Major Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

• Provide specialist technical advice on waste management, water management, and geochemistry as applicable to the operations
• Project manage strategic environmental projects and programs, including in conjunction with third-party consultants
• Review and interpret environmental monitoring data (surface water, groundwater, waste characterisation) and advise on management responses
• Assess environmental risks associated with mine waste materials including tailings, waste rock, and process residues, and recommend mitigation strategies
• Advise on waste classification, characterisation, and disposal pathways consistent with applicable regulatory and best-practice requirements
• Work closely with site operational teams to provide pragmatic, field-oriented environmental support and build environmental awareness and capability among site personnel
• Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of K92's Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001:2015 requirements
• Develop, review, and maintain environmental management plans, procedures, and work instructions aligned with operational activities
• Establish and monitor environmental performance indicators, targets, and objectives across operational areas
• Facilitate environmental training and awareness programs tailored to operational roles and responsibilities
• Assist operations in planning activities to identify and manage environmental risks and obtain necessary approvals, in support of the Principal, Sustainability
• Review and comment on engineering and operational designs from an environmental management perspective
• Drive implementation of the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability across K92's operations, including gap assessments, action planning, execution, and compliance monitoring
• Support alignment with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM)
• Maintain current knowledge of evolving international environmental standards, ESG disclosure frameworks, and mining sector best practices, advising the Director, Sustainability on implications for K92
• Prepare technical environmental reports, briefings, and presentations for internal management, regulators, and lenders
• Support development of public sustainability disclosures including Annual Sustainability Reports and ESG data submissions
• Contribute to periodic external reviews of sustainability performance by international lenders

About You

Ideal applicants will be degree qualified and have 5+ years of environmental and sustainability experience within mining & resources with a proven track record of successfully contributing to environmental standards implementation and compliance. In addition to this, applicants should also be able to demonstrate some or all the following 

• A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following technical specialisations: geochemistry (acid rock drainage, tailings characterisation) waste management (mining waste, hazardous waste), water management (water quality, water balance, hydrogeology)
• Proven experience implementing or operating within ISO 14001 certified environmental management systems
• Proven experience with successful implementation of IFC Performance Standards and their application in extractive industry contexts
• Strong technical report writing, data analysis, and presentation skills
• Strategic thinker with the ability to balance operational needs and long-term environmental goals.
• High level of resilience and adaptability to work in challenging environments.
• Experience working in Papua New Guinea or comparable developing-world mining jurisdictions
• Experience engaging with multilateral lenders, development finance institutions, or independent lender
