K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. About the role

As K92 enters a period of unprecedented growth, we seek to add a Senior Mining Engineer to our underground engineering team to ensure development targets are achieved, allowing future production goals to be met, you will develop, implement and maintain the weekly and daily planning elements, including developing weekly & daily schedules, validating production data, completing data analytics, ensuring reports are accurate and timely, assist with Short Interval Control (SIC)/deviation management planning to support the Mine Superintendents, Mining Manager and Head of Department. In this role you will drive the highest standard of safety culture throughout the business in everything you do.

Key / Major Accountabilities

  • Manage the weekly scheduling process, including organising the weekly underground scheduling tour, engaging with key stakeholders to collate weekly schedule information, collaborate with technical services to ensure alignment with the K92 budget & strategic direction, organise the weekly draft and commitment meetings, produce the weekly schedule articles.
  • Actively manage the Short Interval Control and Data recording tools adopted in the Mine Control Centre.
  • Review the mining costs, developing and actively monitoring activity-based unit rate costs. Produce costs reports and analysis for the Mining Manager and Head of Department. 
  • Based on data analytics, identify, frame up & quantify continuous improvement opportunities in line with K92’s continuous improvement framework.
  • Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively promote a safety-first culture in your daily activities.
  • Manage the weekly production review meeting which includes producing the weekly presentation which provides detail analytics on delays presented in an easily digestible format.
  • Manage the daily Short Interval Control planning tools and processes, ensuring Supervisors and Superintendents have the required data to make informed planning decisions.
  • Use the Mine Control production database to identify continuous improvement opportunities. Frame up the highest value opportunities to implement through the KMS continuous improvement processes.
  • Review and analyse the monthly absolute and unit rates costs, providing a concise report to the Mining Manager & Head of Department to allow improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in incident investigations, providing input from your previous broad experience.
  • Identify, select, develop, and retain top talent within the Engineering - Production team which is required for long term planning and nationalisation.
  • Develop the capability and provide mentoring and coaching to team members including training.
  • Provide effective direction, supervision, training and mentoring of Engineers including processes, knowledge share from other mining operations, and the use of technologies implemented at K92.
  • Assist in the development of a cohesive and effective mine engineering team.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with others in the mining engineering team to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Motivate, influence and counsel others to maintain performance.
  • Proactively manage company safety practices, policies, and initiatives to manage hazards and risks.
  • Communicate regularly with subordinates regarding OH&S matters, foster a pro-active attitude in employees, and seek improvements to manage safety in the workplace.
  • Inspect, monitor, and audit safety performance to ensure compliance with statutory and company requirements.
  • Time investigation and reporting of incidents, including site wide communications
  • Set clear standards re use of safety gear, ensure employees are trained in correct use, and that safety gear is available.
  • Comply with established environmentally sustainable measures and site policy.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering as minimum
  • Minimum 8 years' relevant experience in underground hard rock mining
  • Essential to meet requirements to register with the IEPNG as a professional member.
  • Sound working knowledge of 3D CAD or related mining software is essential. Deswik exposure is desired.
  • Sound working knowledge of MS Office products including MS Access
  • Completed a minimum of 12 months underground practical experience
  • Significant operational experience across a variety of mining methods – experience with a mining contractor is an advantage.
  • Previous experience in a senior leadership role
