K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. About the role

As we expand our operation, we are seeking to add a Resource Geology Superintendent to our technical services team to lead our team of expat and national geologists, in this role you will develop, implement and maintain technologies and processes to provide robust geological data and modelling, whilst also working within the site training policy to mentor, coach, and develop the geologists and support staff. This position reports to the Mine Technical Services Manager and forms part of the leadership team providing management and guidance on geological data management, quality control and modelling.

Key / Major Accountabilities

  • Responsible for timely generation and validation of the grade control estimate and associated process.
  • Own the geological database and associated processed and QAQC.
  • Provide oversight and reporting of reconciliation against model performance.
  • Execution of relevant resource studies and process assessments (e.g. drill spacing, stope and production risk, database streamlining and automation).
  • Manage and validate all workflow documentation and subsequent training for the geology team.
  • Liaise with external groups as required to ensure quality inputs to all geology processes (e.g. assay laboratories).
  • Regular review of established processes and standards to maximise economic profit for the operation
  • Assist with the short, medium, and long term mine planning from a resource geology perspective – working closely with other functional groups
  • Provide standard and scheduled reporting around data management, QAQC and resource modelling activities in the geology team.
  • Identify, select, develop, and retain top talent within the geology team which is required for long term planning and nationalisation.
  • Develop the capability and provide mentoring and coaching to team members including training.
  • Provide effective direction, supervision, and training mentoring of mine geologists, field assistants, drillers, and related geology staff.
  • Assist in the development of a cohesive and effective mine geology team.
  • Understand and express the requirements of site management.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with others in the mine geology team to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Motivate, influence and counsel others to maintain performance.
  • In conjunction with the Mine Technical Services Manager and Human Resource, counsel and manage employees where required in relation to work performance and conduct.
  • Establish a high-performance culture by motivating team members to achieve a high level of performance and by rewarding and recognising high performance.
  • Ensure effective processes are in place for communicating relevant information, including company, site, department, and team performance, to all team members.
  • Direct and train employees on the Mine Geology SOP.
  • Continuously mentor and coach geologists on effective sampling, core processing techniques.
  • Actively review the work performance of mine geology team including the talent and succession planning for designated key roles.
  • Proactively manage company safety practices, policies, and initiatives to manage hazards and risks.
  • Communicate regularly with subordinates regarding OH&S matters, foster a pro-active attitude in employees, and seek improvements to manage safety in the workplace.
  • Inspect, monitor, and audit safety performance to ensure compliance with statutory and company requirements.
  • Time investigation and reporting of incidents -including site wide communications
  • Set clear standards re use of safety gear, ensure employees are trained in correct use, and that safety gear is available.
  • Manage and oversee relevant staff safety trainings
  • Comply with established environmentally sustainable measures and site policy.
  • Oversee PAF/NAF mine material management with routine testing and recommendations and reporting

About You

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor`s Degree in Geology (Preferable), Geophysics or Geoscience.
  • Post graduate qualification in Geostatistics or Statistics
  • Minimum of 5 years geology experience with a majority in mine geology and in the underground environment
  • Previously held a resource geology role.
  • Sound 3D modelling, data organisation and Leapfrog or related mining software is essential. Deswik exposure or experience is desired.
  • Knowledge of geological database products (Datashed preferred) and Microsoft SQL.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite and the ability to analyse numerical and graphical data.
  • Experience in the use of Pronto will be advantageous.
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.
