K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. About the role

Joining our commercial team, the Team Lead – Contracts provides leadership and guidance to the Contracts team, ensuring high standards of contract administration, negotiation, and compliance. This role combines mentoring of team members with a strong technical focus, taking a lead role in procurement planning and market engagements under the direction of the Principal and Superintendent – Contracts. The position plays a pivotal role in achieving effective commercial outcomes, strengthening supplier relationships, and ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.

Key Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and guidance to Contracts Officers, fostering capability development and professional growth.
  • Allocate tasks, set priorities, and oversee workload to ensure deadlines and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Conduct regular feedback, coaching, and performance development for team members.
  • Act as a role model in professional conduct, supplier engagement, and commercial practice.
  • Oversee the drafting, review, and negotiation of contractual agreements to secure favourable terms and conditions.
  • Personally handle high-value or complex contracts to ensure strategic alignment and optimal outcomes.
  • Ensure all contracts comply with legal requirements, organisational policies, and industry standards.
  • Identify and mitigate potential contractual risks to protect the organization's interests.
  • Monitor compliance with contractual obligations, escalating significant risks, disputes, or performance issues to the Superintendent/Principal as appropriate.
  • Conduct audits and reviews of contract performance, ensuring adherence to obligations.
  • Foster and maintain strong relationships with vendors and service providers.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for contractual matters, facilitating communication and collaboration with external partners.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including operations, supply and finance, to support contract-related initiatives.
  • Drive improvements in procurement and contract management processes, including development of templates, evaluation methods, and best practice approaches.
  • Capture and share lessons learned from market engagements to strengthen future strategies.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks incorporating these into contract strategies.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal teams on contract management processes and best practices.

About You

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you

  • Degree Qualified tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (business or legal etc) essential.
  • Procurement or contract management certification (e.g., CIPS, WCC, or equivalent) desirable.
  • 5 – 8 years’ relevant work experience in a Commercial Contracts role, preferably in mining or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of contract administration, negotiation, and management.
  • Strong experience in leading tenders, supplier evaluations, and market engagements.
  • Demonstrated behaviours consistent with K92 Mining core values.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making capability.
  • Strong commercial analysis and evaluation capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop team members with diverse skills and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly to, and influence, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience communicating with vendors in PNG and internationally.
  • Proficient in the operation of Pronto (desirable)
  • Experience in Microsoft suite office tools
