K92 Mining Limited are the owners of the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. The Principal – Business Development is responsible for driving sustainable local business participation across K92’s supply chain. This role links operational procurement needs with community enterprise capabilities, fostering opportunities across the mine life cycle, from exploration support services to closure-related remediation contracts.
The role supervises the Superintendent – Business Development, who implements supplier readiness programs, delivers business training, and coordinates enterprise development activities.
This position provides strategic direction and operational oversight for landowner and local enterprise development. Part of the responsibilities include:
Lead and Manage Business Development: Direct and mentor the Superintendent – Business Development, set clear annual objectives and budgets, and collaborate with Supply Chain to identify procurement opportunities for local SMEs.
Strategic Partnerships & Capacity Building: Develop partnerships with training institutions, NGOs, and financial service providers to strengthen supplier capacity and promote long-term business sustainability.
Governance & Compliance: Embed SPMS Technical Standards into all business development initiatives, ensuring compliance, audit-readiness, and alignment with corporate governance frameworks.
Local Business Participation: Increase the number and value of contracts awarded to local suppliers, contributing to economic growth and ensuring compliance with MOA local content commitments.
Annual Planning & Reporting: Prepare annual business development plans and budgets; report quarterly on procurement outcomes, supplier performance, and training impacts.
Delegation & Financial Authority: Approve expenditure within allocated budgets and authorise the engagement of external service providers for training and capacity-building programs.
To be considered for this position, candidates must have substantial experience working with resource project landowners and business development in Papua New Guinea. In addition to this, candidates should also be able to demonstrate and have some or all of the following:
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, or Supply Chain Management.
Required Knowledge and Experience
• Substantial experience in procurement, supplier development, or enterprise growth in resource-sector contexts.
• Proven cross-cultural engagement skills and ability to manage community expectations around procurement.
• Strong commercial acumen and understanding of PNG’s SME landscape.
• Sound knowledge of business development frameworks and legislation, including the PNG Companies Act (1997).
• PNG Driver’s License Class 6 is essential.
• Strong financial and business management skills, with experience in budgeting, cost control, and operational improvement.
• High-level communication skills in English and Tok Pisin, with the ability to engage rural and village-based communities.
