About the role

Exploration Senior Field Technicians report to Exploration Geologists and are required for all exploration projects - it can be near mine exploration where you will stay in the mine camp and work near the mine geology department, or it can be on remote exploration projects where accommodation can vary from donga housing to living in fly camps.

Key / Major Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

• Follow instructions as instructed by your superiors.
• Diamond core processing (near mine or remote site exploration).
• Grid line surveying/cutting.
• Soil, rock chip and trench sampling.
• Use GPS to guide sampling and to record sample locations.
• Site setup and rehabilitation.
• Remote camp duties will include maintenance, cooking, camp setup, drill pad construction etc.
• Perform all other required tasks in consultation with immediate Supervisor.
• Maintain safe work standards and practices in accordance with government and company policy.
• Perform all roles and responsibilities that support and reflect the company’s mission and core values.

About You

To be considered for this role, applicant must have 5 years or more experience as Senior Field Assistant in exploration work and trained Chainsaw Operators. In addition to this, you will have some or all the following.

• Completed Gr.10 with mature attitude, high moral principles and physical fitness are essential.
• Able to read and write, and with well-developed communication skills in English and Tok Pisin.
• Ability to think laterally and to be capable of field supervision, with the initiative and drive to effectively carry out field work as directed by the Superintendent Exploration Geologist.
• Experienced in a wide range of exploration sampling and field techniques, their procedures, and quality control requirements.
• Experience in exploration programs – grass roots to advanced.
• Experience in liaising with landowner groups in negotiating for land access and general community relations issues.
• Competent computer user.
• Previous chainsaw safety training and experience highly commendable (please detail experience in your cover letter).
• Candidate must reside in either Morobe, Eastern Highlands or Simbu provinces.
