About the role

The Blast Engineer / Magazine Keeper is responsible for the safe planning and governance of underground blasting and explosives storage activities at Kainantu Gold Mine.

The role ensures that the mine’s Explosives and Electronic Blasting System assets are maintained, audited and reconciled; and that all work complies with company procedures and statutory requirements.

The position works cross functionally with Underground Operations, Electrical and IT to ensure reliable blast initiation and continuous operational readiness.

Key Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

  • Maintain and audit explosives stock levels in the magazine, ensuring safe storage, access control, and compliance with explosives handling regulations.
  • Working with the mine’s shotfirers and blast crews on a shift-by-shift basis to ensure blast plans for the shift and the explosive used are aligned and reconciled to comply to site policies regarding explosive orders.
  • Record and reconcile explosive stocks and inventory using Magman Explosives Management System.
  • Conduct weekly and monthly magazine stocktakes and reconciliations, maintaining accurate records for regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct required weekly and monthly Magazine 274 inspections to ensure structural integrity, dryness, ventilation, and safety standards are met (including housekeeping).
  • Place orders when critical explosives stock levels are reached to ensure uninterrupted blasting operations.
  • Liaise with Orica, the mine’s main explosive supplier as required to facilitate replenishment.
  • Maintain and audit blasting system components including detonators, blast boxes, cables, and network hardware.
  • Perform weekly and monthly CEBS stocktakes and reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and readiness. Update CEBS registry to reflect accordingly.
  • Place orders for CEBS components when critical stock thresholds are attained.
  • Troubleshoot CEBS network faults and system failures to minimise misfires and improve system reliability.
  • Coordinate with IT and Electrical teams on CEBS installation, connectivity, power supply integration, and commissioning requirements.

About You

It is requirement of the position that the incumbent possess the following.

  • Valid PNG driver licence Class 6
  • 2+ years’ underground drill & blast and/or 5+ years blast crew / explosives magazine experience.
  • Strong inventory control, reconciliation, and record keeping discipline for explosives and initiation systems
  • Sound understanding of regulatory compliance for explosives storage, transport and use; able to interpret and apply site procedures.
  • Effective collaboration with Operations, Electrical and IT; clear written and verbal communication.
  • High attention to detail, risk awareness, and commitment to safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Behaviour consistent with K92 Mining’s Values.
  • Recognised degree or diploma in Mining Engineering or equivalent technical discipline.
  • Authorisation/permit for explosives handling and magazine keeping
