About the role

The purpose of this role is to provide strategic support to help ensure K92 Mining’s social licence to operate is maintained at a local, regional and national level.

Key / Major Accountabilities

Key accountabilities of this position include.

• Plan and promulgate effective and efficiently manage sustainable community development and business development projects to ensure K92 Mining’s social licence to operate is maintained.
• Provide leadership and strategic advice to Senior Executive Leadership and the Board in areas which relate to national and provincial governments as well as local communities.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with local communities and relevant government agencies at a local and national level.
• Mentor, train and manage career development of PNG national community relations, sustainable development, business development and exploration support team members.
• Develop and implement strategy to ensure stakeholders are aligned with and supportive of K92 Mining Operations.
• Ensure sustainable development projects are auditable and that audits are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company standards.
• Establish and maintain a community database.
• Oversee the annual donation program ensuring compliance with organisational requirements including budget and timelines.
• Plan and implement community information and consultation campaigns aiming for understanding and mitigation of genuine stakeholder concerns.
• Establish and maintain an effective community grievance mechanism.
• Identify emerging issues and trends within the local communities, Eastern Highlands Province and Papua New Guinea and advise the GM- Kainantu Gold Mine and VP - Exploration of any potential risks that may adversely impact on the operations or exploration activities.
• Oversee the Landco development strategy
• Act as the key point of contact for all matters related to social performance and impact, providing leadership and expert technical advice.

About You

To be successful in this role, it is essential that you can demonstrate excellent communication and influencing skills, ideally with both the in government and private sectors and preferably within a developing economy such as PNG. In addition to this you the ideally applicants will also have some or all the following

• A degree in human or social sciences, such as Sociology, Anthropology, or Development Practice
• 5 - 10 years’ experience (ideally within PNG) doing social mapping, community engagement, community development and/or working as a community affairs practitioner, at a senior level.
• Experience in managing sustainable development project teams.
• Strong understanding of PNG legislation and cultures.
• Previous experience with handing the media and producing media (community radio / publications).
• Computer literacy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
• Well-developed active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution and training
