K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. More importantly, we have contributed significantly to the economy of Papua New Guinea, more than 90% of our employees and contractors are from PNG and our local education and skills development initiatives which include scholarships, traineeships and adult literacy programs continue to bring significant benefit the communities in which we operate.

About the role

The purpose of this position is to act as end-user representative for capital underground projects involving multiple stakeholders (internal and external) as well as coordination and management of non-core development and production activities and services using internal mining capability.

A secondary purpose of this role is to provide practical expertise in support of the technical underground mining operation. The role provides guidance, leadership, instructions, and training to the national workforce to increase the mine engineering capability, efficiency and capacity.

Key / Major Accountabilities

  • Project Management of multi-faceted projects.
  • Mentor National Engineers to a high standard.
  • Provide accurate and excellent engineering data.
  • Design and implement mine design as required.
  • Stope design.
  • Blast design.
  • Decline/Incline design.
  • Work closely with Mining Team to achieve best business results.
  • Mine Scheduling.
  • Maintain an allocated budget.
  • Workplace Leadership.
  • Any Engineering work as prescribed by HOD-Mining.
  • Establish a high-performance culture by motivating team members to achieve a high level of performance and by rewarding and recognising high performance.
  • Ensure effective processes for communicating relevant information, including company, site, department, and team performance, to all team members are in place.
  • Continuously mentor and coach the Mining Engineers on practical and effective project management and mining techniques.
  • Identify skills gaps and training requirements and assist in developing training packages as required to close the skills gap.
  • Coordinate and assist with the delivery of training to employees.
  • Actively review the work performance of the engineers and provide feedback to the Head of Mining, including the talent and succession planning for designated key roles
  • Actively promotes a safe and healthy culture.
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety whilst setting clear expectations of relevant legal obligations, safe workplace practices and HSE operating practices to others, holding them accountable for their actions.
  • Perform general housekeeping within and around responsible work area.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Mine Engineering or equivalent tertiary qualification
  • 10 plus years’ experience working in underground mines.
  • Holds the equivalent of a 1st class Mine Managers Certificate in Australia.
  • Knowledge of mining safety regulations.
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training
