About the role

Supporting our rapid growth at the Kainantu Gold mine, we are seeking to add an additional Shift Supervisor to our underground production team. In this role you will support an increased production rate by providing technical specialist advice in safe and efficient modern mechanised mining. You will provide guidance, instruction, and training to the national workforce in modern mechanised mining practices and ensure improved overall mining standards and seize efficiencies that support increased production capability.

Key / Major Accountabilities

  • Provide technical advice and support to the underground mining teams to ensure mining operations targets are achieved and optimised against weekly plans and targets.
  • Ensure effective allocation of available resources to the mining teams so that tasks are safely and efficiently performed to achieve mining production targets.
  • Coordinate program for installation and management of mine services, with a particular focus on including pumping and roadways.
  • Make routine calls for repair, service and/or support within the mine site area, underground or in the field as required to ensure downtime on equipment is minimised.
  • Perform troubleshooting to identify and remedy mining issues that may arise.
  • Execute the Shift Plan safely and efficiently with available resources.
  • Work with and support cross-shift teams to execute the Daily Plan.
  • Provide support to the Mine Superintendent to optimise efficiencies in the underground mine to achieve the Weekly Plan.
  • Work closely with the Mine Superintendent and Shift Supervisors to improve mining standards, assess operator performance and identify improvement projects to maximise results, reduce risk and implement cost management initiatives.
  • Establish a high-performance culture by motivating team members to strive for a high level of performance by rewarding and recognising high performance.
  • Ensure effective processes for communicating relevant information, including company, site, department, and team performance, to all team members are in place.
  • Continuously mentor and coach operators on acceptable mining standards and effective techniques on machinery to achieve these standards.
  • Identify skills gaps and training requirements and assist in developing training packages as required to close the skills gap.
  • Coordinate and assist with the delivery of training to employees.
  • Actively review the work performance of technicians and provide feedback to the area supervisors including the talent and succession planning for designated key roles
  • Actively promotes a safe and healthy culture.
  • Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety whilst setting clear expectations of relevant legal obligations, safe workplace practices and HSE operating practices to others, holding them accountable for their actions.
  • Ensure general housekeeping within the mine is to a high standard.

About You

Experience

  • Underground Shift Supervisor Qualification – Western Australia, Queensland, or equivalent (Essential)
  • Senior First Aid (Essential) and Mines Rescue (Desirable)
  • 5+ years plus of underground mining experience (Essential)
  • 2+ years Shift Supervisor experience (Essential)
  • Previous experience operating in Papua New Guinea or developing countries in remote locations (Desirable).
  • Previous experience with:
  • Decline/Incline Jumbo development (Essential)
  • Tele-remote LHD operations (Essential)
  • Sandvik Auto-Mine System (Desirable)
  • Ammonia Nitrate Emulsion explosives (Desirable)
  • Electronic detonators (Desirable)
  • Computer proficiency in: MS Office (Desirable) Pronto (Desirable) LiveMine and Plodtrack (Desirable)
  • Sound planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent trouble shooting skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training
