K92 Mining Limited are the owners the high-grade Kainantu Gold Mine in Eastern Highlands Province. Since commencing operations in 2016, we have delivered consistent production growth. More importantly, we have contributed significantly to the economy of Papua New Guinea, more than 90% of our employees and contractors are from PNG and our local education and skills development initiatives which include scholarships, traineeships and adult literacy programs continue to bring significant benefit the communities in which we operate.

About the role

As part of the project team and reporting to the Underground Project Manager, the primary purpose of this position is to strengthen the underground projects team by bridging a critical capability gap in technical leadership and mentoring. This role is not a traditional engineering position but serves as a strategic enabler for workforce development and operational readiness.

Key Accountabilities

• Provide hands-on mentoring to junior and graduate mining engineers in underground development practices.
• Facilitate knowledge transfer in solving non-standard technical challenges encountered in project execution.
• Support the development of practical engineering solutions aligned with operational constraints and project goals.
• Assist in building internal technical capability to reduce reliance on external expertise.
• Contribute to short- and medium-term development planning by guiding junior engineers through scheduling and sequencing tasks.
• Review and validate engineering inputs for project scopes related to the Stage 3 Expansion.
• Support alignment of engineering deliverables with operational readiness and resource availability.
• Assist in identifying and resolving planning gaps that may impact project timelines or execution quality.
• Promote safe engineering practices through mentoring and example-setting in underground environments.
• Ensure junior engineers understand and apply safety standards in design and execution.
• Participate in risk assessments and technical reviews to ensure compliance with site safety protocols.
• Support continuous improvement in safety culture through proactive engagement and coaching.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you have a tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering with a strong production focus

• Minimum 8 years of underground mining experience, preferably in technical support and project execution roles.
• Proven ability to mentor and train junior engineers, with a focus on practical problem-solving.
• Strong understanding of non-standard underground technical challenges and ability to guide resolution.
• Familiarity with mining software tools (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, AutoCAD) for design and analysis.
• Good analytical and teamwork skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills as well as good organizational, administrative and multitasking skills.
